Close to the Julian Alps in Friuli, about 7 km from Cividale del Friuli and near the border with Slovenia, in the municipality of Prepotto, stands the ancient village of Castelmonte.
Of Roman origin, the entire complex, well structured and surrounded by high walls, maintains its stronghold style unchanged.
In it there is the Sanctuary dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Castelmonte or, as the Friulians call it, "Madone di Mont" and the Slovenians "Stara gora" (ancient mountain).
There is no abundant and detailed documentation that tells us about this sanctuary; it is rather the numerous pilgrims who go up to it that tell the true story of the sanctuary.
These simple pages, offered to those who visit the site, are full of news for those who want to discover and visit this wonderful place.
